Exhaust Gas Measurements

Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)

CEMS are used to monitor exhaust gases for oxygen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide to provide information for combustion control in industry. They are currently employed as a means of complying with air emission standards. Plants use CEMS to continuously collect, record, and report the required emissions data.

Analyses might include:

Dust CO (carbon monoxide) NOx (nitrogen oxides) SO2 (sulfur dioxide) HCl (hydrogen chloride) CO2 (carbon dioxide) H2O (water) O2 (oxygen) TOC (total organic carbon) When monitoring emissions, the system must operate continuously and be capable of:

Sampling Analyzing Recording the data

at least every 15 minutes, with data averaged hourly. This means that the operating frequency can either be continuous or activated at a predefined frequency or as needed.
